Unity for architecture, engineering and construction, in five days

Context
Show how industry leaders in architecture, engineering and construction are using real-time 3D to change how buildings are designed, built and operated. One of my first projects at Unity, five days start to finish, and the first film out of the door after the rebrand was announced.
The problem
- 01Five days from start to finish, including approvals.
- 02The first video published after a brand relaunch, so it set the reference rather than following one.
- 03A technical subject that had to land with a senior, non-technical audience.
What I did
01
Storyboard toward the simplest possible visual
With five days, complexity is the enemy. I storyboarded around graphical lines that could carry both the ideas being presented and the AEC product life cycle, which is a lot of meaning from very little drawing.
02
Keep the animation minimal on purpose
Minimalist animation was the right answer twice over: it suited a freshly rebranded identity, and it was the only treatment achievable in the time.
03
Work directly with the editor
Rather than designing in isolation and handing over, I worked alongside the editor throughout, which is what removed the usual round of revisions the schedule had no room for.
Result
- 01Delivered in five days, as the first published piece under the new brand.
- 02Used internally at Unity as an example and reference for other graphic and motion designers.
- 03A repeatable approach for translating technical vertical stories to a business audience.
